BHU Entrance Exam 2021: Syllabus and Pattern




BHU conducts UET, PET and RET to offer admission into various Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research Programs. Candidates who qualify the entrance test successfully will get admission into the University and its affiliated Institutions. For Admission into MBA Programme, the admission will be provided on the basis of CAT Scores or CET. 

There shall be negative marking in entrance tests for all Courses of study in UET. Three marks shall be awarded for each correct answer while one mark shall be deducted for each incorrect answer. Unattempted question will be awarded zero mark.

BHU 2021 Syllabus

BHU 2021 Syllabus will be different for UG, PG and RET Programmes. Candidates can check the complete syllabus for various UG and PG Programmes from the information bulletin on the website. Below we have provided the syllabus details of UET and PET for various UG and PG Programmes.

For UG Programmes

For admission into various UG Programmes, UET will be conducted by the University. The Syllabus of UET will be from 10+2 level. The question paper will contain different topics as per the stream and programme opted by the candidate.

B.A (Hons) Arts Programme:

For admission into BA (Hons) Arts Programme, the syllabus for entrance test contain questions from General Mental Ability, General Awareness, Basic knowledge of Plants & Animals, Numerical Ability, Environment & its Pollution, Natural Resources of Industry, Human Body, Human Health, Common Diseases, Solar System, Climate & Weather, Population Explosion, Production of Food & Raw Materials, History, Indian cultural heritage with special focus on current events in Indian Thoughts, literature and art. Also the question paper will include two sets of MCQs on Language comprehension.

B.Com (Hons)/B.Com (Hons) – F.F.M Programme:

For admission into B.Com (Hons)/B.Com (Hons) – F.F.M Programme, the syllabus for entrance test contain questions from Accountancy, Money and Banking, Financial Markets, Basic Mathematics, Financial Statement Analysis, Business Organization, Economics, Business Environment and Business Management. Also the paper will contain questions from Computer basics and Current Economic Affairs.

For PG Programmes

For admission into various PG Programmes, PET will be conducted by the University. The Syllabus of PET is from graduation level topics. The question paper will contain different topics as per the programme selected by the candidate.

M.Com Programme:

For admission into M.Com Programme, PET contain questions from Accounting and Business Finance, Income Tax in Section A. Section B consist of questions from Monetary Theory and Banking, Business Law including Company Law, Statistics and Business Economics, Business Organization & Management.

MCA Programme:

For admission into MCA Programme, PET contain questions from Mathematical Aptitude and Analytical and Logical Reasoning. Analytical and Logical Reasoning contain questions for checking candidate’s knowledge in logical conclusion, graphical/data interpretation etc.

Mathematical Aptitude contain questions based on Matrices and Determinants, Logarithms, Inequalities, Permutation and Combination, Progressions, Binomial Expansion, 2-D Coordinate Geometry, Equations (up to degree 2), Function and Relation, Basic Concepts of Probability, Complex Arithmetic, Basics of Calculus.

M.A in Mass Communication:

For admission into M.A Programme (Mass Communication), the entrance test contain questions based on General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Logical Quantitative and Analytical Abilities and Aptitude (inferences from graph, tables, percentages, etc.) and Language Proficiency including Proficiency in English Language.

Ph.D Programmes

For admission into Ph.D Programmes, the entrance test will have three components, Test A, Test B and Test C. Test A contain questions based on Logical and analytical thinking, Quantitative Ability, General knowledge, Knowledge of computer usages and language skills.

Test B contain questions focusing on assessing the subject knowledge of the candidate in the discipline he/she has done Post-graduation. Test C is research proposal and interview.

BHU 2020 Syllabus must be reviewed by the candidates before appearing for the entrance test. Candidates can check the Syllabus of UET and PET online from the website.

Entrance Test structures

The entrance test structure for different tests is given below:


(i) Common Test for B. A. (Hons.) Arts and B.A. (Hons.) Social Sciences
There shall be one Paper of 120 minutes (Two hours) duration carrying 360 marks containing 120 multiple-choice questions. These questions shall be based on General knowledge and Current Affairs (60 MCQs), General Mental Ability/Reasoning (15 MCQs), Numerical Ability (15 MCQs) and Language Comprehension (30 MCQs). The Language Comprehension section will have two sets of multiple-choice questions, one each in Hindi and English, where the candidate is required to answer either the Hindi Language set or the English language set but not both. The standard will be of +2 Examinations or equivalent.


(ii) Common Test for B. Com. (Hons.)/B. Com. (Hons.)-Financial Markets Management
There shall be one Paper of 150 minutes (Two and half hours) duration carrying 450 marks containing 150 multiple-choice questions, 15 each from (i) Accountancy, (ii) Financial Statement Analysis, (iii) Financial Markets, (iv) Economics, (v) Money and Banking, (vi) Basic Mathematics, (vii) Business Organization (viii) Business Management (ix) Business Environment (x) 06 questions from computer basics and (xi) 09 questions from Current Economic Affairs.

(iii) B. Sc. (Hons.): (Maths group)
There shall be one Paper of 150 minutes (Two and half hours) duration carrying 450 marks containing 150 multiple choice questions based on +2 examinations or equivalent. The Paper shall comprise three sections: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, each containing 50 questions.

(iv) B. Sc. (Hons.): (Bio group)
There shall be one Paper of 150 minutes (Two and half hours) duration carrying 450 marks containing 150 multiple-choice questions based on +2 examination or equivalent. The Paper shall comprise three sections: Physics, Chemistry and Biology, each containing 50 questions.


(v) Shastri (Hons.)
There shall be one paper of 90 minutes (One and half hours) duration carrying 300 marks containing 100 multiple-choice questions. These questions will be based on knowledge of Hindi and Sanskrit Languages of Madhyama/10+2 or equivalent examination standard


(vi) Common Test for B. Sc. (Hons.) Ag./B. Sc. (Hons.) Ag.-RGSC
There shall be one paper of 120 minutes (Two hours) duration carrying 300 marks containing 200 multiple-choice questions based on +2 examinations or equivalent. The paper shall comprise the following five sections:
I. Mental Ability – 25 questions; II. Chemistry – 25 questions; III. Physics & Mathematics – 50 questions; IV. Botany & Zoology – 50 questions; V. Agriculture – 50 questions.

A candidate will answer 100 questions. Sections I and II are compulsory for all candidates whereas from Sections III, IV
and V, a candidate will answer any one Section.

(vii) Common Test for B. Ed. / B.Ed. Special Education-V.I. & H.I.
There shall be one paper of 150 minutes (Two and half hours) duration carrying 300 marks containing 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), to be divided into the following two parts – (a) 30 MCQs on teaching aptitude, reasoning, current educational scenario; (b) There will be four subject groups viz., Languages, Science, Mathematics and Social Sciences and Humanities. The candidate will be required to appear in the group for which he/she has given option in the application form on the basis of his/her eligibility. Each group will have 70 MCQs.
