• 11 जनवरी 1966 को, भारत के दूसरे प्रधान मंत्री लाल बहादुर शास्त्री का 1965 के भारत-पाकिस्तान युद्ध को समाप्त करने के लिए पाकिस्तान के साथ ताशकंद घोषणा पर हस्ताक्षर करने के एक दिन बाद ताशकंद, USSR (अब उज्बेकिस्तान) में निधन हो गया।

• मॉन्ट्रियल प्रोटोकॉल एक बहुपक्षीय समझौता है जो ओजोन क्षयकारी पदार्थों के उत्पादन, खपत और उत्सर्जन को नियंत्रित करता है।

• 197 पार्टियों द्वारा अनुसमर्थित, यह दुनिया में हर देश द्वारा अनुसमर्थित होने वाली पहली संयुक्त राष्ट्र संधि है।

ओजोन परत ठीक हो रही है, दशकों में पूरी तरह से ठीक होने की उम्मीद है

• संयुक्त राष्ट्र समर्थित विशेषज्ञों के पैनल के अनुसार, पृथ्वी की ओजोन परत चार दशकों के भीतर ठीक होने की उम्मीद है।

सड़क मंत्रालय 11 जनवरी, 2023 से सड़क सुरक्षा सप्ताह मनाएगा

• सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्रालय 11 जनवरी, 2023 से पूरे देश में सड़क सुरक्षा सप्ताह मनाएगा।
• कार्यक्रम का उद्देश्य स्वच्छता पखवाड़ा के तहत सभी के लिए सुरक्षित सड़कों के कारण का प्रचार करना है।
• सप्ताह के दौरान, सड़क दुर्घटनाओं के कारणों और उन्हें रोकने के उपायों से संबंधित जागरूकता अभियान, नुक्कड़ नाटक और जागरूकता अभियान चलाए जाएंगे।

11 जनवरी को राष्ट्रीय मानव तस्करी जागरूकता दिवस मनाया गया

• इस दिन का उद्देश्य मानव तस्करी पीड़ितों की दुर्दशा के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के साथ-साथ उनके अधिकारों को बढ़ावा देना और उनकी रक्षा करना है।

Death anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri observed on Jan 11

• On 11 January 1966, India’s second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri died in Tashkent, USSR (now Uzbekistan), a day after signing Tashkent Declaration with Pakistan to end the 1965 Indo-Pakistan war.
• Shastri was the second Prime Minister of India.
• He gave the slogan, “Jai Jawan! Jai Kissan!” during the Indo-Pak War of 1965.
• He was awarded the Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1966.

Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer

• The Montreal Protocol is an Multilateral Agreement regulating the production, consumption, and emissions of ozonedepleting substances.
• Signed in 1987.
• Came into force in 1989.
• Ratified by 197 Parties making it first United Nations treaty to be ratified by every country in the world.
• The Kigali Amendment to the protocol aims for the phase-down of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).

Ozone layer is recovering, expected to be healed completely in decades

• Earth’s ozone layer is expected to recover within four decades, according to a United Nations-backed panel of experts.
• It is expected that if the current trends continue, ozone layer is expected to recover to 1980 levels by the year 2040.
• The conclusions are in line with the goal of the Montreal Protocol of 1987.
• The report added that it will return to normal in the Arctic by 2045.
• 2022 was 5th-warmest year for the planet since records began
• Report by Europe’s Copernicus Climate Change Service had said that 2022 was the fifth-warmest year for the planet since records began.
• The report shows that the last 8 years have been the warmest on record.
• The annual average temperature reached 1.2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
• The reason behind this was a rise in concentration of heat-trapping gases.

Ministry of Road to observe Road Safety Week from Jan 11, 2023

• Ministry of Road Transport and Highways will observe Road Safety Week across the country from Jan 11, 2023.
• The aim of the programme is to propagate the cause of safer roads for all under the Swachhata Pakhwada.
• During the week, awareness campaigns related to the causes of road accidents and measures to prevent them, Nukkad Nataks and sensitization campaigns will be conducted.

National Human Trafficking Awareness Day observed on January 11

• This day aims is to raise awareness about the plight of human trafficking victims, as well as to promote and protect their rights.
• Every year it is estimated that 225000 people worldwide become victims of human trafficking.
• 11 January was chosen as the date because The Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, the first federal law in United states to address modern-day slavery was passed.

Central government extends term of RBI Deputy Governor Michael Patra

• The government has re-appointed Michael Patra as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India for an additional period of one year with effect from January 15, 2023.
• Prior to being elevated to this position, Patra was an executive director with the RBI.
• Patra is also a member of the Monetary Policy Committee.

Axis Bank signs up with IISc to set up math and computing centre

• Axis Bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru to establish a Centre for Mathematics and Computing at the IISc Institute.
• The centre spread over 1.6 lakh square feet will have labs and programmes benefitting faculty and students.
• It will also host the new IISc BTech programme in Mathematics and Computing.

Facts: National Clean Air Programme (NCAP)

• It was launched by Ministry of Environment in Jan 2019 as a long-term, time-bound, national-level strategy.
• It aims to bring a 20%-30% reduction in pollution levels from PM(particulate matter) 2.5 and PM10 particles by 2024, using 2017 levels as a base.
• It covers 132 non-attainment cities.
• Non- Attainment Cities are the cities which do not meet the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.

Delhi was India’s most Ppolluted city in 2022: Report

• Delhi was the most polluted city in India in 2022 with PM 2.5 levels more than double the safe limit and the third-highest average PM10 concentration, as per the report by NCAP Tracker.
• Among the most polluted cities with respect to PM2.5 levels, Haryana’s Faridabad ranked second and UP’s Ghaziabad third.
• In 2021, Ghaziabad was the most polluted with respect to PM 2.5 levels.

BharatPe Gets Nod for ePayment Aggregator Licence

• Fintech unicorn BharatPe has received inprinciple approval from the Reserve Bank of India to operate as a Payment Aggregator (PA).
• PA are entities that facilitate e-commerce sites and merchants to accept various payment instruments from customers.
• They do not require merchants to create a separate payment integration system of their own.
• Previously Open, 1Pay, etc have received approval.

• The 83rd All India Presiding Officers Conference is being held in Jaipur on 11-12 Jan 2023.

UK Governor gives nod to 30% reservation in government job for women

• Uttarakhand Governor Gurmit Singh has approved Uttarakhand Public Services (Horizontal Reservation for Women) Bill 2022.
• It provides for 20% horizontal reservation for direct recruitment in public services and posts in vacancies to be recruited until July 24, 2006.
• After that, 30% horizontal reservation will be given in favor of the women candidates permanently domiciled in Uttarakhand.

MP Tourism Board signs MoUs with chapters of 8 countries of GOPIO

• Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board signed MoUs with chapters of 8 countries of Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) at Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Convention.
• MoUs were signed with France Metropole Paris, Mauritius, Reunion Island, Martinique, Sri Lanka, GOPIO International, Malaysia, and Mauritius.
• The aim of MoUs is to boost cooperation in development of Tourism sector of the State.

• SS Rajamouli’s film RRR won Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu, one of the two categories it was nominated in.

Facts: Prithvi-II Missile

• Prithvi-II is an indigenously developed Surface-to-Surface Missile Short-Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM).
• It has a range of around 250 km-350km and can carry a one tonne payload.
• Prithvi II class is a single-stage liquid-fueled missile that has warhead mounting capability of 500 kg-1000kg.
• Its development began in 1983, and it was India’s first indigenous ballistic missile.

India successfully carries out test launch of Prithvi-II missile

• India on 10 January 2023 successfully carried out a test launch of the tactical ballistic missile Prithvi-II.
• The Prithvi-II missile has a range of around 350 kilometers.
• The test was carried out from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.
• Prithvi missiles are indigenously produced and are the first missile to be developed under India’s prestigious IGMDP program.

DRDO develops UAV for operations in Himalayan frontier regions

• The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has developed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in January 2023 to carry out logistic operations in the Himalayan frontier.
• It is capable of flying in the Himalayan environment with 5kg of payload and even dropping bombs in the areas required.
• It can also travel in auto mode and release payload and return to the home location.

• A Kraken is a mythical giant tentacled sea monster from Scandinavian folklore.
• XBB.1.5 is the most transmissible omicron sub-variant detected so far.

• South Africa all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius on 9 January 2023 announced his retirement from international cricket.
• Pretorius had featured in 30 T20Is, 27 ODIs, and 3 Tests, in which he amassed 1895 runs and scalped 77 wickets.

Dr Tehemton E. Udwadia “Father of laparoscopic surgery” passes away

• Dr Tehemton E. Udwadia, an Indian Surgeon and Gastroenterologist, who was known as the ‘father of laparoscopic surgery in India’ passed away on 8 Jan’23.
• He was the 1st surgeon in India to introduce laparoscopy in surgery in 1972, and the 1st to perform laparoscopic surgery in the developing world in 1990.
• In 2002, he was awarded the Padma Shri for his contributions to the field of medicine.

Abdul Gaffar’s autobiography ‘Njaan Sakshi’ released by MS Dhoni

• Professor K.K. Abdul Gaffar’s autobiography, ‘Njaan Sakshi’ was released by cricketer MS Dhoni in January 2023.
• The book was introduced by senior journalist T.A. Shafi.
• The autobiography provides insight into Prof. Gaffar’s journey and how educators and students have changed over time.

Sudarsan Pattnaik builds world’s largest hockey stick in Odisha

• Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik built the world’s largest hockey sculpture on the banks of the Mahanadi river in Cuttack, Odisha.
• He built a 105-feet long hockey stick, using 5000 hockey balls.
• He has also been awarded Padma Shri in 2014, for his contribution to sand art.
• He also holds the Guinness Record (2017) for building the tallest sand castle at 48 feet.

4 Himachal Pradesh cops awarded Home Minister’s Medal for excellence
